do aimpoints/scopes break regularly during games?

just wondering, does it happen at all where a guy's optical accessories mounted on their aeg's get shot up by an unbelievably lucky shot right into the scope/aimpoint/whatever? or no one really worries about it because

a) those accessories are 6mm-proof;

b) there is no way anyone can make that shot;

or

c) people usually cover it up to protect it from damage?

E. Some people cover them up, others just live with the risk of getting their optics shot out. It does happen from time to time.

I know of some instances of optics being shot and cracking (red dots). however magnified optics (scopes) are generally made of pretty dense glass so unless they're really bad quality, or getting shot by some really hot gun from close up, they'll most likely be okay.

For example, most airsoft won't break windows (even though they're much larger surfaces and nto as thick as most optics) or glass bottles. The CO2 powered KWC Mini Uzi however does fire extremely hot (too hot to be gamed with without a conversion to lower power gas) and it can break a bottle (as seen in a video review of it), so that would probably damage optics. But it would also injure someone quite a bit (compared to "field legal velocity" guns) so it's not really an issue I guess.

You're right. It was used in a Trijicon Ad (I think I saw it in Shooting Times). Apparently it stopped a 7.62mm ap2 round... Sight's garbage, but the grunt firing the gun was fine.

I love companies that supply armed forces. Its not uncommon for a soldier to write Surefire, Trijicon, etc to thank them for there tried and true devices for saving there life. Lense shot out on a m900 or a ACOG catching a round, and the company replacing it free of charge. Its also nice to know that most companies dont try to make a killing off you. They make products that will work when they have to and dont try to screw you in the process.

Very true, my company gets dozens of letters a month from deployed forces around the world.

Most companies that warranty their gear for life will do that.

We along with TAG have replaced, free of charge, some Tactical Assault Gear products that were in "unfortunate" accidents in A-stan.

HSGI has fixed, free of charge, some of their gear that were involved in the same sort of things.

Check and see how long a company will warranty a product, 1 to 5yrs is about average for most companies.

I never suffer any RDS, ACOG nor scope damage ever.
The only thing that got busted was a cheap taclight lens once.
