Question Upgrade or Replace???

I currently own a Tokyo Marui MC-51. While I like the gun, it simply lacks in range durring woodland combat. I've been thinking of either:

a) Upgrading. I have considered buying the full stock to fit, which apparently allows a 9.6V battery, in order to get more power out it. I would also add a silencer as a barrel extansion. My hope is that the large battery and somewhat lengthened barrel would allow for some increased range. This is however pricy. Full stock = $130CAD Silencer = $65 and up CAD.

b) Replacing. While I do like it, it may be more worthwhile to replace then upgrade. However, I do not know of any guns that would improve my range and use the same mags other than the TM G3-SG1 and I'm just turned away from that for some reason.

Anyway, any help or adivce is very welcome. If you think the upgrading is the way to go and you have those parts for cheaper, please post here or PM me. Thanks.

If you want more range out of your MC-51 all you need to do is install metal bushings and a new spring (maybe a new spring guide) into your mechbox. Those two parts would run you roughly $40 CDN and whatever labour charge if you get someone else to do it for you.

The full stock, longer barrel (which may require a cylinder change), silencer and battery are not necessary.

I probably would have someone else do it for me. i'm not too comfortable opening the guns up. Do you know of anyone who could do it?

Fill out your profile, there are many gun docs around.

You can buy an HK51 barrel extension that replaces your tiny barrel with one much longer. Then just add a longer inner barrel.

length of barrel helps, but a nice tightbore works even better, not only does it increase range but it also increases grouping

Just a longer barrel wont help range much, you need more FPS which means a spring replacement. Also the battery doesn't affect range at all.

i have a 365 fps G3 and it outranges a 470 fps sniper rifle with a longer barrel.
my only advantage is my tightbore barrel

So can you give me an actual spring name. I have been told (elsewhere) that a M120 spring would do the trick. I've also been told:

Quote:
In order to get better range out of your gun, look into the standard upgrade of a spring and metal bushings minimally. Add a quality hopup bucking on top of that. That is the low-cost start.

To go further, add a tightbore inner barrel of the same length.

To spend even a bit more, then you get into longer inner barrels with a silencer to hide it, along with possibly needing a new cylinder depending on how long a barrel you go with.
That quote corrisponds(sp?) with what you guys have said. And can some one just tell me a reliable, cheap gun doc, rather than playing these "fill out your profile games." [no offence to Colin_S. you've been a good help(honestly)]

Thank you. Am I correct in assuming that manchovie is his ASC name?
