in need of a gunsmith
hey i was just wondering if anyone knows of a gunsmith in the GTA area that can do custom rifling on brass innerbarrel?
and yes i know that rifled barrels are usuless for airsoft and has been discussed to death already, this is not for airsoft use(thoe it will depend on my test resaults), its for personal use on a project im working on.

i would, but im not planning on shooting anything near realsteel ammo, and i need it to be 6mm in diameter.

Yes, just buy TK. Deep hole drills dont come in 6mm, and they're really expensive. And you 'll never get a straight hole with a handheld drill. And who says rifled barrels are useless for airsoft? They're great over long distances. If you could get a better shaped projectile, with more mass you could have a really accurate rifle on your hands...

I don't think any real steel barrel maker would have the broaches to rifle a 6mm bore as it doesn't correspond to a real steel calibre.
I also have a feeling that barrel rifling is something most gunsmiths wouldn't touch. Firearms barrels are very carefully manufactured extreme pressure vessels which have wads of metal blasted through thousands of times. I'd leave that to a company who can do real proof testing and make stuff from super reliable billets of metal free of microcracks or voids.

well this isnt for shooting airsoft BBs, but something else i have been working on, and its not metal so i dont need something hardend and hightech, i just need to have shallow grooves down a normal airsoft barrel.
unfortunatly a Tanio Koba barrel doent have the twist rate i would need to give my new projectile and good spin. i could get what is called a barrel liner in Cal.223, but i have yet to find a canadian shop that sells them. way too much paperwork to get one from the US so thats not even a consideration. i could make this work with 5.56mm, but i would rather just stick with 6mm. i shouldnt be showing this, but maybe you guys would understand a little more about why i need rifling done. its a little more complex then pictured since you cant really see inside of it, well just barely. please note that patent is pending

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

maybe try making your own tool to cut the grooves?

Ouch. I'd rather be hit with a round ball going 3-400fps rather than a high-pressure point. I bet my goggles and eyes would think the same thing. Small surface area to dispurse the impact... Balls are made for bouncing. Points are made for penetrating...
I wonder if this is playable? I'd love to see the range and accuracy. |

not to worry, the material used is very soft compaired to BBs.
i have already shot my self with it at 300FPS at 5 feet, and it does less damage then a .20 BB at the same speed and distance. also that point deforms on impact, and transfers the Ki energy over a much larger surface area of that of a BB. also that is just a test mold, the final product will most probably have a rounder front. also note that i will be making two sets of ammo, one for riffles and the other for SMGs and pistols.

But you would also need to make a custom mag to hold said ammo. And I dont see the custom mag holding much more then a lowcap. Just my 2 cents.

All I can see coming from this is more hassle.
If you make airsoft guns fire things that look like bullets... Imagine how an uninformed person would feel about this? "OH MY THOSE ASSAULT SNIPER MACHINE GUNS ARE SHOOTING BULLETS!!!" |

sure its nice to have 400+ round highcaps, but i much rather have realcaps. you could say that the current means needs the extra ammo to make up for poor accuracy, but if thinks go well with what im working on accuracy will be at a whole different level not to mention much more range. these new projectiles weigh about as much as 1/5 that of a .25g BB. this translates into less mass, lower jules, and so it means higher FPS and range with less Ki on impact. also, it puts an end to the annoying bouncing BBs issue(ever played QCB and have BBs hit the wall behind you and hit you in the back?.. i hate that), but thats not to say there wont still be ricochets, rather it'll be more like in real life. right now im working a a mold so i can make these "bullets"(still need to name them) in mass, so i can do some more testing and even show then at some games in the next few months.
