Problems with a new PDI 170 spring
I have checked with some local guys here in Regina but I though I would also ask on this board.
Should a new spring be hard to stuff into the piston? I don't mean compressing the spring. I mean that the diameter of the spring makes it tough to push the spring into the back of the piston. It will go but it is very tough to push it in. When I put the mech box back together and pull the trigger the motor/battery does not have enough power to pull back the piston all the way. I have the gears shimmed correctly. I am using a 1800 Mah 9.6 volt battery. The gears are stock. I have tried the spring in two different mechboxes (I have two AUG's) and the same thing happens. Did I get a bad spring? Thanks Outrider

Nop, you got one of the famous "Pratice strings" from PDI.
Those are made by the new employees and are far from perfect. Even when they fit in the piston your guess is as good as mine as per the velocity you will be getting. I for one, stay away from PDI springs for that exact reason.

I'm sorry but sinc eyou have a hard time pushing the spring into the piston fricton might be the issue. Think abotu it of the spring doesn't compress inside the piston...
You got an oversized spring, to me that's the issue. But others can correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd say you got yet another messed up PDI spring.
As has been recommended various times across the forum: stay away from PDI springs. There are much better choices available, not just in the ease of installation, but performance-wise as well. Prometheus options are easy to install, easy on your battery and hold very consistent velocities. You also can't go wrong with Systema springs. |

Get a Prometheus 110 spring, there hasn't been one single report of a bad one, and even in a short barreled MP5 with no other fps enhancing parts, I get a great 365fps, enough to launch 0.28g BBs 200ft easily.
Since I'm a broken record about PDI springs (even a lot of their bolt action springs are crap), I'm with Illusion and Hellranger, buy a good reputation spring. I haven't got a clue why so many people go right for a PDI spring when they first want to upgrade an airsoft gun. Heck, I was one of them!!! |

I used to run a PDI 150% in my ICS, and it just sounded like the gun was gonna blow up after each shot, switched it to a Prom MS110sp, rated roughly same FPS, and smooth shots, easy on the gun, and much better performance.
