Tips on Makeing your own gun markings?
I was wondering if anyone here has any sugestions on how I can put my own marking on my M4. I have a TM M4 and I want to put "property of the Canadian Armed Forces" and the PPCLI logo on the magwell. You know how you can get metal bodies with the Navy Seals or Blackwater logo's well that waht I want to do but Canadian style. Any sugestions?

Uh, on a plastic receiver? It'll probably look like shit if you try to carve one in, and you probably don't want to just paint/draw/etc. one on. I say buy a metal receiver and have it engraved.
If you don't care that much, use a stencil and some white paint. Make the stencil on a Transparency sheet though, since paper is too flimsy and cardboard is too bulky. You'll also be able to see perfectly through the Transparency, so you can put it EXACTLY where you want it. Last edited by Mr. G36!; November 1st, 2007 at 17:17.. |

Yeah just have decals for cars made for you guns. Be sure to tell them its for a pourus surface thats flat and that will need to be extra thicky. Cost a bit but gets the job done nicely.

Thats a great Idea I think I will do that. Do you know how I can look for a company that can make me some quality decals and not require a minimum of like 30?

Ok, here's the deal. I've been calling several places now. After a while I narrowed it down. The guys who make car decals can't make ones as small as I need them to be and they can't do white on clear (this is what they said)
next I tried a silkscreening place, they also can't do images so small. Next was laser engraveing, I went ther today at lunch, and I find out that laser engraveing merely scratches the top layer off (simmilar to the sand blasting process) so it would come out shiny silver (since that is what the aluminum looks like underneath. I couldnt paintover it because there is no real depth and if I ever choose to repaint my gun I would loose it all. So now I am looking at hand engraveing at a jewllers but they charge around $200/hr so i'm not really want to do that. The other idea I hear of is stamping it, I will post more infor when it becomes available. If you have any great ideas i'd love to hear them. [to bring you up to speed if you don't already know i'm trying to find a way to imprint my own gun markings on my various gun bodies.]

Cut out a stencil of what you want.
Put it on the gun and put say, 20 coats on, letting each one dry between coatings. Now you have a nice raised trade. Do a final coat on the whole gun as you normally would.

They are chargeing $200/hr for that.
As for the cutting a stencil and ding sevral coats of paint, I'm not sure how to do that since it's pretty small and detailed. I'm not a pro and I have never done this before.

If you go to an art store or autoshop, they have these decal makers. Get what you want, take out the letters, then get a small brush, like a nail polish brush which is best, stick the decal/vinyl onto where you want it, and paint over it. After drying for a day, peel off the vinyl.

Even with laser engraving you should be able to fill in the wording with crayon or candle wax. After you spraypaint you should be able to remove the wax with a pin.
