M15A4 RIS Carbine (Classic Army)
I got a couple questions about this gun. Look at the picture in the link. The gun has some kind of battery pack attatched to the RIS. Is the pack for storage or is it essential for operation? Also, if I remove the pack, is there anywhere else I can place the batteries, like the foregrip?
It costs $750 at 007, and I want to make sure it's worth the cost. I hear good things about this line. Is it worth the price? and if not, what's the most durable M4 replica available in Canada? Picture |

Classic Army is good, but to play it safe, you shoudl upgrade the piston head and change the hopup rubber. do that, and i would say its better than a TM. dont do that, you might not be even able to use it outta the box (at least some people have had that happen to them)

Read some reviews and you'll get a better idea of how it works, though I'll say right now the CA m15a4 isn't that bad a rifle (still might wanna have the innards looked over though, due to the sometimes shoddy quality control).
As for the AN/PEQ on the front of the gun, it's where the battery goes. As the RIS carbine is wired to the front, the only other place to have it is in the handguard, but you won't be able to hold as beefy a battery (ie: higher voltage/mah) unless you get it rewired to the read. Then you can get a crane battery stock or fullstock, or even a battery bag. Judging which brand M4 is better is largely subjective, so you won't find a straight answer on that. Best way to find out is to go to some games, handle some different guns and see which you like best. Next best thing I guess would be to read as many reviews as you can - google is your friend for that. Fill out your profile so local people will be able to help you out, and get age verified if you're over 18. That way you'll be able to view the classified section, and there are all sorts of armalites there selling for a lot less. Good luck, |

Could spend some cash, and get a crane stock or such.

I own that exact one. Love it. "Is it worth it" is subjective. Especially considering the rarity of airsoft in Canada.

Hmm... Are smaller batteries compatible with the weapon? The kind that can fit in the handguard?

I don't think so...the gun and RIS don't seem to have any room anywhere for a battery. The standard area is roomy enough, and will take the recommended or mini-style battery.

The last CA front end that I worked on had a pretty beefy barrel and the RIS has a metal heat shield inside it, so I don't think that you can sqeez anything be some flat Li-Po batteries in there.
If you don't want the ANPEQ box, where the battery is stored, you'll need to rear-wire it and go with a crane/mod type stock. Tys Last edited by m102404; February 2nd, 2008 at 16:40.. |

I was sick of the PEQ and how front heavy it was so I purchased a stock set of stock CA handguards thinking I could stick a mini battery inside...NOPE! Barrel is too thick and just won't quite close (maybe 2mm short!). I could've spent maybe 30mins doing a bit of dremel work but I went and baught a crane stock instead! Best decision ever to go with a crane stock; balances the gun very nicely. |

Hmm. What about if I want to mount the AN/PEQ on the side of the foregrip?
Do the RIS covers come off? |

Only the bottom panel of the RIS will come off - the other three are a single piece. If you want to mount it on the side, though, you just gotta poke the wires through one of the many holes along the handguard.
Find somebody local where you live who has one or go to a game and ask if you can manhandle one for a bit. It's a lot easier to figure things out with it in your hand rather than trying to have it explained with just words. srsly though, go with the crane battery stock :P |

No, by RIS covers, I mean these things. :P
Those come off the side of the foregrip for more rail space, Right? :P In any case, I might stick with the Crane stock idea. And since I'll need more money, I may as well make the entire purchase at once - with the stock and optics, it'll cost over one large. Ugh... I need a job, and soon! The right hand side of the gun is easy. However.... The left hand side is blocked up front by the strap attachment, so you can only slide it in from the rear. The rear is blocked at a fairly high angle by the retaining ring. The instructions say "pull this back, slide it on". I've gotten mine on a few times, but last time I tried it was so tight the RIS cover started snapping like popcorn. As I kept pushing to get it on, it kept snapping the underside retention plastic. I haven't figured out how to get that one (the left one) on and off easily. I tried pulling back on that ring, but I need 4 hands really. |
