ICS M4A1 Loose RIS
Hey guys,
I recently purchased an ICS M4A1 RIS and everything's great except the RIS is really loose. I can move it 2mm or so back and forth on the top and bottom. I read the ICS M4 Bible thread and it does mention a loose RIS but I'm still not really sure how to fix it. Something about adjust barrel length? |

Loosen the screws on the mid-lenght portion of the barrel, and turn the front half counter-clockwise to shorten it. Try it a few times to get the length just right, then the RIS won't be so loose.
But, the rear handguard ring spring is not very strong, so it will always exhibit some movement, no matter what you do.

ICS M4 or varient thereof, yes. I've had to do this not only for the stock handguards, but also with some aftermarket ones as well.

Also, how do I remove the RIS cover? Sorry, my M4 has no manual and the online one I found is not for the RIS version.

That's your opinion and that's great. I got it at a very good price because it was second-hand and despite the RIS problem, I have no regrets. The thing is sturdy, heavy and one fine airsoft rifle.

I got the RIS covers off by the way. I opened the RIS up and see what I need to do but unfortunately don't have the right hex tool.
Mods can close/move this thread as the problem is solved. |

Thanks Aikidodave. I have everything figured out and the gun is working great. The only thing I can think of that needs to be done is to fix that RIS which is more of a small annoyance. The hex screws are so small and I have a set but there's one that's too small and one that's too large so I can't shorten the barrel yet.
I'm going to chrono it with a laptop and a mic to get a rough FPS estimate.
