Simulated JAMS, by modifying a Trigger Master
I've gotten simulated JAMs working on a test gun by modifying the programming in a Trigger Master, and installing a switch.
A "jam" stops the gun from firing. Instead of firing, the gun vibrates (like a cell phone) until an IA drill (tap-rack-bang) is done to clear the jam. It's just for fun, really. I can simulate shoddy equipment or crappy ammo or dirty guns now! opcorn: Click for YouTube Video: Technical bits: - A switch installed in the M4's upper receiver detects the racking of the bolt and signals this to the Trigger Master. - Jams are more common in full auto or burst firing modes. It's more "reliable" to shoot in semi. - The "tap" part of the IA drill (where the magazine is tapped in) isn't actually detected. I cheated on that part. nice system! and it sounds pretty good when firing! Unlike my G3. Got helical gears?

It's a cool idea. I was kinda confused when I first saw this... but seems pretty cool.
Isn't the TRB drill, and IA drill completely different? I thought for IA you had to release the mag, shake your rifle, rack'er 3 times (for luck ), insert a freshy, and rack again.... |

I want one... that would add a whole other experience to the sport. To bad I'm not as good as you are with that sorta stuff or else I'd do that too.

Well well well, what have we here, and airsoft gun that stops working at random? Just what I've been looking for!
What do those army guys yell in all the movies? I think it's "Career going alright, carrer stops"! Don't mind me, I tend to ramble on. |

Awesome work, Don! We'll have to discuss this a bit later (work's got me busy the past 2 weeks)

I'm pretty sure there are different scales of IA (immediate action) drill. The quick one is just tap-rack-bang. If that doesn't work you need to do more. That's about all I know about the details though.

PS. Regarding gears: Bone stock TM gears is all. Probably sounds cooler due to the camera picking up the sound nicely (reverb off the wall behind me, maybe?) |

This idea was brought up in another thread regarding the Trigger Master but would it be very hard to program it to cutoff power once you hit the end of the mag?
As Stalker said, you might be able to mount a magnetic switch in the mag well and add a small magnet to the BB follower in the mag. Once you hit the end of the mag, the follow trips the magnet and shuts off the current. Maybe install another small contact switch on the bolt-catch so you gotta hit that to reset before you can fire again? Would be an AWESOME mod if do'able.

Just to play devils advocate here and being an electronic dunce so bear with me. My Mags rarely if ever empty out and there are usually 2-4 bb's left in the mag. Would this effect said magnetic switch?

Probably would affect it. Would be a matter of positioning the switch in the right spot so the follower will definitely go by it.
Maybe there's another solution which would depend on an event which only occurs when the mag is empty. Say an optical sensor somewhere to sense if a bb is shot out of the inner barrel? When there's no bb it shuts off until it is reset via the bolt-catch. Of course this all requires wiring etc... So what specific events happen when you run out ammo? Sound signature changes No bbs are expelled No bbs are fed into hop.....This is all brainstorming.

The typically non-functional airsoft forward assist is just begging to have a switch crammed into it for something like this.
