LiPo Battery Question

I just picked up an 11.1V 1800MA LiPo for my KWA M4. The R/C shop I bought it from did not have any mini-connectors and told me that no-one used them anymore. Does anyone know how I can get my hands on a mini-connector(s) as the battery is simply a pack with two wires and no connectors, I am really not all that electrically-proficient and I have no idea where to find something like that.

You'll do good with "deans" connectors if you can get them from your rc shop, but i'm an rc guy more then airsoft so maybe that won't work but i don't see why not. maybe even a tamiya style connector.

If you are not electically proficient, be VEEERRRY careful when charging LiPos. Never leave them unattended and charge them somewhere where if they do start on fire or explode you wont burn your house down.

A friend of mine just about burned his house down after a cell exploded in the middle of the night.

Just a heads up in case you were not aware of the issues with LiPos.

PLEASE don't use mini connectors there.

If the space it restricted, use some Dean Ultra, is it does not fit, use some Dean Micro4 or Micro2.

If it still does not fit, use bullet plugs (gold ones, go to an hobbyshop to get some, not radioshack)

The mini will melt.

Also, DO NOT charge it on your regular charger, 100% garanty you will burn your house. You need a charger MADE for it.

There should also be a second patch of small wires comming out. These are for charging. You need a balancing charger to take good care of Li-Po batteries.

Read the FAQ.

Thanks for the good advice, I did pick up a Triton Jr LiPo charger but when I opened the box I found out it is not a wall charger but one that runs off of 12V DC and attached via clips to it, there are two plugs for output but no cables, I am going to take it back but can anyone recommend a good wall LiPo charger that comes with all the parts I need right off the bat? If I rewire the battery with a Dean connector that would mean I need to do the AEG as well, is there anything I should watch out for while doing this?

Nope, deans are extremely easy to install.

If you need a smaller connector the make gold plated bullet connectors that are even lower resistance than deans.

Be very careful discharging that battery as well. DO NOT drop the cells below 3v per cell. Contrary to the falsehoods being spread on several forums, it is possible for them to catch fire that way. I've seen it happen, in midair, and destroy a plane.

yes if you go with deans you need to buy a pair ( one female one male) use the female on the Battery that way there is no chance of sparking. There is LOTS of space in the handguard of your KWA so dont worry. One thing about deans is that you need to solder them on the wires then cover the exposed terminals with shrink wrap. If your not comfroable with this go to a hobby shop, they can do it for you. ( You can disconect the wireing in your handguard) however its pretty simple job to do.

I went with the MRC academy SuperBrain 989, mainly because it came with a wall plug-in power supply, it may be overkill for you I'm not sure but I have too many different RC's to take care of, but it comes complete out of the box.

(not mentioning the other 4 million features it's got.)

He needs a charger specifically for LiPo batteries. If you use a regular charger with a LiPo, the battery WILL explode.

I do own many LiPo powered rc's and I am understanding that. The MRC superbrain 989 will do 1-8cell lipo, I also recommend the "blinky" brand of balancers.

So you survived a plane crash... watching somebody on board charging a battery?

I think he may have meant in an "R/C Plane", but not sure.

I thought it would be pretty obvious since these batteries are common in RC aircraft.

Yes it was an RC plane. a 1.20 sized extra to be exact....

I've seen them burn twice. Once was in a low pass on a .60 sized trainer coming in to land. No low voltage cutoff on the ESC and the battery popped.

The second time was inverted, midair. We THINK one of the cells died and dropped the other three in the pack(flying a split pack setup) below there critical level. Plane caught fire and came down quickly.
