Modify FTK

I've heard some pretty good reviews about Modify's modular gear sets and anti reversal latch, but has any had any experience with their FTK's?

I'm thinking of buying one for my *soon to be* CA36 but I'm not too sure about some of their parts, but they look pretty good... How about your $0.02?

Piston and piston head are good quality polycarb material.
Good quality cylinder.

You already know the situation with the gears and antireversal latch.

I cant say anything about the spring, but the rotary spring guide is good quality. Steel, with a good bearing. I use one myself.

If the rest of the parts are on par with what modify puts out then yeah its a good kit.

Well, I could always buy another spring if the FTK spring is sub par... Though if I want t upgrade the CA36, I would have to buy the Ak47 FTK (Due to cylinder and nozzle), and buy a G36 selector plate, right?

I heard that Modify's modular gear sets don't fit in CA reinforced V2 mech shells. I havent heard anything about Modify's modular gear sets fitting or not in CA V3 mech shells.

Oops, forgot to mention I'd be getting a King Arms 7mm mechbox, unless there's anything better.

Just have to make sure it's not a reinforced gearbox. There's not enough room for the gear bracket.

If it's a reinforced gearbox, ask Jugglez...he'll let you know exactly what works with what.

I know that the Modify FTKs Jugglez had Modify send him were special boxed with M110 springs...stock kits came with M120s which are too strong for our field limits. It was extremely thoughtful of him to get them to switch them out instead of just selling them as-is. I've seen 10-12 Modify springs go in rifles in the past 6 weeks. All either M110 or M100 springs and they seem to hold up very nicely. I've got them in all my field rifles.

If the bracket of the drop in set doesn't work in your mechbox, you might want to try the stand-alone gears. He even said that you could take the gears out of the drop in set to use as stand-alones...but I haven't tried that.

They do not fit in CA mechboxes, I've tried. You need a non-reinforced mechbox, and I think that King Arms ones are OK. Unless you're building some kind of uber-FPS gun, you may as well just get a stock TM V3 mechbox shell. It's the easiest to work on, and it's guality.

Modify springs are the sex for me, I won't buy any other for my workbench. They are nice and spongy (good for mechboxes AND battery life, extra bonus is great ROF), and easily consistant too. Bearing spring guide and Modify 90 spring (in two MP5s, longer barrel will have higher fps) net 320-330fps, and the Modify 100 gets 370fps consistantly in a TM AK47 I upgraded recently (bushings, spring and bearing spring guide). I'm happy to have found springs I can rely on and accurately predict fps, makes things easier for my business and faster turn around of client's guns when I dont have to try different springs to get fps they want. Add in I won't be doing any more 400fps upgrades................

EDIT: I just got a PM from another tech asking me why I won't do any more 400fps upgrades, I felt my answer was good enough to warrant posting here:

Quote:
Too many new players want them, experienced players tend to not give a shit as long as the velocity is decent. New player around here, has played maybe 4 games so far, I've got his fourth gun on my bench now, and have done his friend's SIG 552, and every time he says he wants them to shoot as close to 400fps as possible. So I just put my foot down really. New players seem to think of 400fps limit as a goal. And they also seem to think you can fine tune the fps on an AEG.

Hey guys, thank you for all your help; I talked to Jugglez and I'll be getting a high torque FTK for the AK47 unless that's not the right type, but I'm sure it is!
Pretty good price too...

My gun is coming together nicely, muahahaha.

They do fit in CA ver3 mechboxes. At least on the one I had. It was a CA8-2.

Make sure you specify the bushing size. TM AK's (and CYMA-02 V3 gearboxes) use the set with 6mm bushings, JG's and most clones use the set with 6.1mm bushings.

I just did up a CYMA AK with a modify HS modular gearset with 6mm bushings and I had to leave the the spur gear bushing off to get it to spin freely (with all 3 bushings it was binding).
