M16 Barrel Change?
I've taken down my G&G M16A3 and I am holding in my hands the upper receiver and outer barrel. From what I have read on the internet, to remove the barrel I just need to pull it away from the receiver. However, even with two people, it won't separate. Is there something else I need to do?
Thanks, GabeGuitarded

If you're holding it in your hands...how did you type that post...humm?!?
In general...you have to take off the delta ring assembly to get the outer barrel off. Details help: 1. Is you M4 front or rear wired? 2. Do you have a gas tube installed (and does it pass through the delta ring to go into the upper receiver) 3. What make is it (doesn't really matter)? Tys |

The gun is stripped down completely at the moment, so the delta ring assembly is off, dummy gas tube is off, etc. Make is G&G, and it's rear wired, but all the wiring is in the lower receiver which is detached and off to the side. Also, to clear up any confusion... I have four arms.

See...if you said that you typed that out with your nose and your ***** at the same time...that'd be impressive...four arms...less so.
If everythings off...and the barrel is just plain stuck in the upper, find a wooden dowel or hard wood (quarter round trim works if it's the right size) that's a couple of inches longer than your upper receiver. I hold the receiver between my knees...barrel pointed down (put a box/bucket/towel under it in case the barrel pops out so it doesn't hit the floor), line the stick up against the inside face of the barrel in the receiver...and give it a good wack (or 10) with a hard plastic/rubber mallet. This is one of those cases of "if you hit it and it doesn't move...hit it a little harder" It should come out. Be sure the wood stick is the right size. You can use a little block of wood that fits the barrel stub if you're dowel/rod isn't the right fit. Best of luck, Tys Last edited by m102404; January 17th, 2009 at 19:01.. |

I'll see if I have something like that lying around. Thanks for your help.
EDIT: To Rona!

Sorry to double post, but this doesn't really seem to fit as an edit.
What diameter should the dowel be? I don't really have an appropriate tool to measure myself, but I estimate about 1.5-2 centimeters? Thanks, Gabe

Compare to one of your finger nails...then measure your finger nail.
I'll go measure a spare barrel...and edit this post...hang tight. .768" (sorry, you'll have to figure out the fraction yourself)...or 19.5mm If the dowel is oversized...you can taper it. Tys Last edited by m102404; January 17th, 2009 at 20:02.. |
