How to: Shiny Paint Coating (Gold/Chrome)
Many ASC'ers Love Bling
(Not everyone of course) Key Note: I'll update top post as more info is received Some of you guys love bling that is no lie. Whether it be shiny silver, chrome or gold you guys love them. Hell even shiny pink for some The easily attainable thing that can be done is a Silver polish with home hardware tools but as for getting the bling best look for your local custom metal shop. But there is one do it yourself solution!! Do it your Self Solution -(Found by Daiviet) 1. Humbrol Paint you can buy for your projects "They have a variety of metallics, but this stuff is neat since it's meant to be buffed and burnished once it's applied. This stuff with get a mirror finish on a flat surface!" http://www.humbrol.co.uk/paints/all-...8&resultspage= Workshop Solutions (Ranked in Order of What is best) 1. 24k Gold Plate or Anodize - Custom workshops, I cannot figure how a DIY (Do it yourselfer) could achieve this on their own unless you have the tools. 2. Titanium nitride coating - (Source: Qlong) - Another alternative if you cannot find custom workshops you can also look for those who do a PVD or CVD coating for more details go here: Airsoft Canada - View Single Post - How to: Shiny Paint Coating (Gold and Chrome) 3. Jimski's - Sand it and Paint Method (Best for Silver Polish Effect) Check his post here: Airsoft Canada - View Single Post - How to: Shiny Paint Coating (Gold and Chrome What NOT to do Krylon Gold/Chrome Mirror Caps These don't make it into the mirror finish like the cap shows. It only gives off a dull gold for what it looks like, go here: Smith and Wesson - Shotgun (aka. Walmart) - Airsoft Canada Last edited by cbcsteve; March 24th, 2009 at 21:12.. |

My Project for this:
These are no longer made by Freedom Art anymore, so I got to get creative with some paint cans Krylon Gold Paint cans are only good for dull Gold and dull silver and yes as many said I agree the Paint Lid is misleading. (Yes instructions were followed) Last edited by cbcsteve; March 11th, 2009 at 18:01.. |

Krylon also has the Premium Metallics 18kt gold spray as well as other premium metallics. I bet they're expensive.

I high gloss clear coat would also be helpful, and protective. You can usually pick them up at canadian tire, just look for a clear cap.

you need a base coat of very gloss black before applying the metal shade.
the gloss paint has to be uber mega-micro-smooth if you want the mirror effect to work. I haven't tried the krylon crap but most gold and chrome spray wont work unless they have a mirror cap and there's mentionned somewhere 'mirror effect' or some variation. You need to polish your base black like a motherf**er, I'm not talking one coat and some varnish, you need to spray one coat, sand it, respray, resand, etc...anally again and again until achieving super-smoothness on the black coat. Then you can do the same with the gold effect until you reach awesomeness in a tube. to do that on a gun I'd probably stick a polishing broomhead on my drill, something fluffy.

Don't use spray on clear-coats, brush on works one hell of alot better (and it smooths out alot nicer too)

Depending on the material you're trying to pimpout, you can get them 24k gold plated.
I have a gold plated steel outer barrel... stuck in customs. I'm sure an officer has it mounted on some Hi-Capa he seized and it's sitting on his desk for his buddies to see. |

Yeah the Krylon with the Gold Mirror Cap is misleading, follow all instructiosn perfectly but you will get a what looks like my shotgun.
But definitely will be on the lookout for some uber-smooth gloss coats and will look into Jimski's process Here where I heard to get Glossy Polyurethane http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...5182238AA8dPdD |

The polyurethane clear coats from rattle cans are terrible compared to the 2 part cans where you have to mix the hardener into the PU paint. The rattle cans already have the hardener mixed into them, just enough so it will not harden inside the can, but it can take up to several months for it to completely cure.

Epoxy clear coat it's harder but that's not a polyurethane.
I'm sure there are many different brands out there, I just don't know where to look. I know Duracoat has a clear coat system.
