Hop Up set out of box?

Are hop up systems generally set when you buy a new gun? What affect does hop up pressure have on velocity, any?

Hopups aren't set out of the box.

On piston systems, increase in hopup setting will decrease velocity. On gas system, hopup setting does not (or at least, less so) negatively affect velocity.

New guns tend to (at least, used to) come with the hop up set full off, and there were quite a few times a new airsofter would post on here to ask why the BBs rolled out of the barrel when first loaded mag was put in, thinking they bought a broken gun. So just a heads up. And you only need a dozen or two rounds to set the hop up properly.

Remember too the hop-up is dynamic. It's something you'll have to adjust (probably) every time you play. You can't just set it and forget about it.
