Frozen Body Pin on CA M15A4
Hey All,
I have a Classic Army M15A4. I am trying to remove the mechbox from the assembly completely. Everything went smooth except I can't seem to punch out the last pin in the lower receiver. It is the pin in between the 2 larger pins, I believe its the body pin holding in the mechbox. See the picture below. That is not my actual photo but it shows what pin I am having trouble with. I removed everything according to mechbox.com . I have been using an allen key and hammer to try to punch it out but it won't move. I don't want to scratch the body so I am trying to be very careful. But I have been repeatedly smashing the pin with a hammer for the past hour. Any tips? :banghead: pin.JPG

On some pins one side is bigger than the other did you try punching it out from the other side if you havnt tried that already if it may be hitting the body on the other side so again try punching it out on other side.

also try tapping the gearbox lightly to try and better align the holes so it will be easier to knock out.
I agree with the above post, try to see if one side has the pin slightly indented and apply force on that side. find something to cover your body, this could get messy goodluck, |

All mechbox pins have a tiny taper and kind of a seraded edge on one side of the pin that's a few thousands of an inch biger to give it more friction I made my self a removal tool though and usaly the taperd side is on the side of the dust cover so I'd actualy try to get it started with a center punch and once its started enough take a hammer and use the nail remover part but place some rags under it so it dosnt mark up you body if not it probaly friction welded it self their witch is a posiblity hope this helps

This isn't about how to take it out, but I know some people like to glue that pin in, which is not recommended

OK, I got the pin out by trying the other side with more force!
Now I am unable to remove the mechbox from the lower receiver it seems when i try to take it out that the rounded rear piece close to the stock is in the way. I can't seem to take out the mechbox.

remove screw in buffer tube, throw it in semi, tilt it forward, and rock it out.

The screw in the buffer tube is already removed. When i look down it I see the mechbox and nothing else.
There are no more screws to remove according to all the guides I have read. I have been trying to rock it out but it remains caught by rear part near the stock. See photo below. This is not actually my photo, just pointing out that my mechbox is stuck underneath this ridge. stuck.JPG

Try throwing it into safe, then tilt it forward and out
some mechboxes take a little bit more force to push it out Esp if its your first time taking it apart |

I tried putting it into safe, also tried putting it into safe then semi. I have been rocking it forward, back. Do I have to remove the selector switch? Is there some new trick on the new lineup of M15A4's?

Try being a little more forceful

You probably just need to be a bit more forceful. I understand the fear of breaking something though. Try putting it on semi and pushing out from the part that the grip would attach to while pulling down on the body with your other hand. Once it catches on the top of the body you need to push is forward (towards the front of the gun).

Thanks for all the replies, but I still cannot remove the mechbox. I have tried tilting in every direction, pushing the mechbox from grip. I have used a lot of force and rocked it simultaneously but the mechbox won't come out. I've also tried all combinations on the selector switch, oddly when it is on auto it seems to not be able move as much. :banghead:

Ok make a checklist. Did you remove:
- pistol grip (that's a pretty obvious one!) - stock screw in the back of mechbox - rear body pin - mechbox retention pin - mag release |

Yes sir, everything on that list has been done!
