1911 Modification advice
The bellow gun is a Kimber Grand Raptor ll 1911. So my question to you ASC is there any modifications that can make an otherwise stock GBB 1911 look this way. I know I will most likely need to piece together multiple store bought mods and some custom ones, but do you guys have any advice? I know this is a real gun, but I want something that looks at the minimum very close to this one.
Link, cannot seem to upload photo's right now... http://www.impactguns.com/store/669278321288.html Thanks |

Start with a Hi Capa as your base. The rear sights are easy to find. You will have have your slide will have to be custom engraved, and obviously ur slide will be blank to start with with no engravings. Use the real steal grips.
P.s heres the photos for everyone: Last edited by burningashes; April 16th, 2009 at 23:51.. |

$400 isnt going to get you much...
If your going to build something like that, no sense in starting from the KJW get the real deal and do it right, start with the TM

To make one like that, you wouldn't start with a "Hi-Capa"; that Kimber is a standard-sized 1911, with a 7-round magazine.

SO I should be looking for something in the range of the TM Colt M1911 A1 as a base gun? I know 400$ isn't much but it is going to be budgeted for more. Right now I am looking into a good primary before a secondary that looks crazy good IMO.

i would reccommend a tm for the reliability, however theyre plastic and metal frames are hard to get. i would reccommend maybe a we or wa 1911 not a hicapa. the frame is standard on the raprot it seems, all you need are a few nova upgrades (bever tail, hammer, trigger ect) and as for the slide, thats easy, pm illusion, he can make you one with the dove tail tac sights and the grips, either real or get nierbee to make you some.

No, don't start with a Hi-Capa as your base. It is a different gun platform. Hi-Capas are high capacity 2011 pistols. 1911 grip panels also can not be attached to a 2011 - again, they are different platforms.
The raptor is a single stack 1911, with an integrated grip/receiver, so start with a 1911, or ideally, an MEU as the receivers are slightly different and some of the components are also different between the 1911A1 and MEU. There's about 100 years of evolution between the two models. It is harder work (and more expensive) to turn a 1911A1 in to a modern combat pistol than to start with the MEU, even though the MEU has a higher start up cost. I can get you a custom build slide to look exactly like that and can also provide the Bomar type rear sight to match. $400 won't get you much. It'll get you the basic gun platform, a recoil spring, hammer spring, and an enhanced loading nozzle. Plus maybe an extra mag. The slide is another $190+, and a stainless steel outer barrel can run you anywhere from $140 all the way up to $250. |

Im getting some custom work done by Illusion VERY soon, and when he says he can have pretty much anything made to your needs, he isnt kidding...
