Using bearing spring guide without bearings
The threads have worn off the inside of my JG mechbox spring guide. I'm purchasing a new one, however, the only ones available are bearing ones. The piston head I'm using is already bearing and I don't really want to run both as bearing. Can I take the bearings off the spring guide and use it without them?

I've ran set ups with both Bearing spring guide and bearing piston head and never had a problem. Just don't use super long springs.
Mind you, can I ask what spring you have? |

As long as they are secured at both ends, it is safe and good for your gun. You increase your FPS slightly and have longer mechbox life as extra sideways torque and friction from the spring compressing and snapping back out is smoothly absorbed as rotational energy by the bearings on both ends. My guns all have bearing spring guides and bearing piston heads.
It's fine to run the spring guide without bearings if the whole thing is metal (have had 3 plastic spring guides break on me). The added 3 mm or whatever caused by the bearings isn't going to do squat to spring length really.

Like Skladfin said, as long as it isn't a long spring it should work. Personally I prefer having a bearing spring guide rather than the piston head, in order to keep the piston light (faster, less inertia to slam into the cylinder head/mechbox).
Dunno which piston head you're using, but it may be possible to leave out the bearing from it by using a shorter screw and only putting in the washer-type thing inside the piston.
