ACOG Mount Progress
Hey guys, so Ive got an ACOG mount that has a horrible paint job and many chips and scratches on it. So far, Ive sanded it down with 150, 320, 1000 and 2000 grid sandpaper to make the surface as smooth as possible. I will then prime it with Krylon grey primer, followed by Krylon flat black, and then Testers/Tamiya Clear dull coat.
Anyways, Im still working on it, but the pictures below show how shiny Ive sanded it down compared to the original gloss black. Any comments, feedback, suggestions or recommendations are welcomed! AFTER SANDING: BEFORE SANDING: Last edited by turok_t; July 6th, 2009 at 17:23.. |

I'm just wondering why you bothered at all since it's a mount?

Well, im a perfectionist and want the mount to look as good as possible. Before the sanding, the mount didn't fit, there were many scratches and chips, and the paint was glossy black which didnt match my ACOG at all. But after sanding and using some CA glue as a filler for chips/scratches, it's looking much better. All I have to do is spray paint it now.
PS: I couldnt find a new ACOG mount that uses the two screws so I chose to redo mine instead. I only found the QD mounts. Huang did have one but I wasn't sure if he was selling it. I decided to save some $$ and just polish up mine. |
