CA BT5A4 versus PTW TW5A4

Yet another comparison thread,

I am on the market for a high quality MP5, and altough I've owned a CA MP5 before (still regret selling it), I heard nothing (good nor bad) about Systema's MP5 PTW version (officially called the TW5).

Is the TW5 worth the asking price, which is about triple that of the CA BT5 (I'm reffering to the TW5 MAX version)?

Advantages of the TW5 over the BT5 I can see :
- Better metal reciever & cocking tube
- Way better internals
- Ability to quick-swap cylinder groups for upgrades & downgrades
- Having the right to brag about having a PTW!

Disadvantages of the TW5 over the BT5 I can see :
- Triple the price
- Uses proprietary magazines
- Most likely uses proprietary internals
- Reliability & durability... unknown to me, maybe someone could enlighten me...

Any input in this discussion would be greatly appreciated.

PTW are the best but you pay the price for it. Theirs some odd bad one's here and there, but thats for everything.

If you have the money go for it, but be sure to do a lot of gaming to justify it

Personally i saw PTW's as a one gun answer. Grab one + appropriate cylinders and voila your good to go. Oh that and i never had to worry about my AEG breaking down in cold weather or anything like that (i went through thousands and thousands of rounds w/o a single jam or problem, including under heavy rain).

But it's always better to be safe than sorry. If you do get a PTW be sure to have enough money to replace a broken part, OR somekind of warranty if something goes south.

The TW5 is not really quick-swap as the AR-series PTW. Several minutes and some tools are required.

The TW5 also does 3-burst, and it is orders of magnitude quieter than any other AEG I've ever heard, including the AR PTW. Metal quality is about the same as a Classic Army.

Only 40 round mags for TW5 from Systema, but I would expect there to be more options over time.

It still beats taking apart a AEG completly + the gearbox.

No one quick swap anyways, you only change cylinders for a specific game. Which saved me a couple times when bad chronoes were used and reading 450+fps for the blue cylinder... Stick in the black cylinder and everyone is happy

Argh, I was expecting negative answers, now you guys just made my life alot more expensive... I wasn't too sure that I wanted to go for the TW5, now it seems to be the way to go.

What do you guys think about the 'challenge kit' aka the DIY kit PTW, I know it is only like 150$ less, but still, 150$ it still worth a few extra mags for that toy. Is it different from fully assembling an AEG (which I did many times)?

Challenge kit + Systema is nothing but trouble.

I know this better than anyone in Canada, I promise you that. 90% or more of the kits that crossed my bench for repair had assembly issues, some of them were expensive repair bills.

If you have the $$$ just get a TSI Tavor, especially if quick-swap FPS etc. is so important to you: 2 pin take down, drop in a mechbox (a decent JG Version 3 gearbox is only like what, 3X the cost of a spring?) , and you're away...

I already own a Real-Steel Tavor, so I'm more interested in getting top-notch "firearms" that are actually prohibited in Canukistan, as the MP5. Thanks for the heads-up though, you tought me a few things I didn't know about the TSI Tavor.

Agreed, out of the 6 kits i assemble, 5 had issues. Out of the 4-5 kits my buddy assemble all had issues.

And then theirs the mix and match kits some people sell... those were HORRIBLE (McGuyver knows that, i bugged him for a couple things from those haha).

Get a Systema assemble one, or get one assemble where their's somekind of warranty.

I'm coming to bug you, i'm itching to hold a real Tavor to see how it feels

i personally think CA would be a better choice. its cheaper. there are a myriad of parts that can be added to upgrade the gun. and should it break, its a cheap fix that can be done by any gundoc (its a V2 mechbox).

Give then fact that this AEG is mostly going to be used for CQB in Quebec (where the 350 FPS rule is in force), it is worth getting the MAX version for durability's sake or should I stay with the regular version (read as : getting the Max version would be a waste of money for the intended use).

Thanks.

P.S. I know these are alot of questions in a row, please bear with me, i've been out of airsoft for about 6 years, so I've got alot of catching-up to do before blowing 1500$ on an AEG....!

Actually, there's so much plastic on this rifle that it feels more like an airsoft gun than most airsoft guns...!

If you can find a PTW TW5A4 for sale,I'd take it! I'v fired one it feels great, but parts could be an issue "IF" it goes down! I like my PTW M4 so it's kinda a one way thing for me lol. I don't use my G&P's,CA's or ICS right now. But the TW5's are solid,if ya run out BB's you could use it as a club lol.

On another note, you can very, very easily quick-swap a CA in a couple of minutes as well. Just requires a second gearbox and lower receiver ready to go. The CA quick-disassembly body makes it a breeze. Pop out 2 pins and you're good to go.

Really, both are a good choice. It's up to you and how much you want to spend. Just be aware that the Systema is very hard to come by. CA MP5s pop up for sale fairly frequently. And any potential problems will be expensive to repair on the Systema, whereas CA will be cheap and easy to fix. And if 3-round burst is important to you, then there's the option of installing a Triggermaster in the CA to get that.

Your call.

I own a TW5 Max and I can say that it was well worth selling both of my CA Mp5's just to get the Systema. It makes all other AEG's feel plasticky and toy-ish !

Pros:
- extremely quiet.
- very accurate.
- lots of compatible accessories.

Cons:
- very heavy.
- lack of replacement parts should something break.
- low cap mags (personally I like them).
