Using heavy BBs in a GBB :where is the limit?

This week-end I might use my TM hi-capa 5.1 as my main weapon (or close to it) in an outdoor game.

I have seen posts where people say to use heavier grade BBs in GBB because the physics behind it makes it a great improvement. I have seen 0.25, 0.28 and 0.30 being suggested.

I have 0.36g BBs on hand for my sniper rifle. Would these be overkill, useless or would it be even better then using 0.30?

overkill, use 0.30 or 0.28.

you will lose quite a bit of range with 0.36. You can try, but you wont get very good results range wise

Stalker begs to differ.

All depends on your hop-up rubber and your internal set up...

Range indeed. .36s in theory should have better range then .3s IF the hopup can give it the right backspin. Unfortunately stock TM hicapas from what Ive seen dont even have the hopup to properly spin .3s unless you bend the internal arm a bit or replace the rubber. On max hopup my stock 4.3 shoots great with .25s. It has seen a lot of rounds though. .3s are much more accurate but they drop earlier due to lack of hopup.

Don't I always? Lol, yes I do aim higher when using heavier ammo, but that is thhe nature of real steel also. And I've easily run 0.43g BBs through my KSC G19 and gotten 100+ft kills. Basically aim at the head and hit the chest past 100ft.

Best was ~140ft kill with my G19 using 0.36g BBs at Rawdon in 2006.

0.30 would be the max I'd say for aiming dead on. I regularly use those in my KSC MK23 (I have Hazard as a witness, 0.28g would pass 150ft before veering off a bit) since I have SIIS ones I don't use in my rifle (because I have bags of he Bastard sniper BBs), and there is literally no fps drop from 0.30g BBs to 0.28g BBs (Bastards that is) according to my chrony testing with spring guns (rifle and pistol).

Sorry, the pics are long gone (old pbase account that I had), but check this out:

Lol, there's a new twist to things, eh? If I can get 140ft kills with 0.36g BBs in my G19............. think I can do the same with 0.20g? Fuck no!
But that's with a KSC, which have harder hop-up rubbers than TM.

Replace the bucking with a Firefly rubber One of my buddies did that and his hi-capa was shooting PERFECT with .25bb's with the hop-up off

Ya, I only have KSC pistols. The only TM pistol I have is my MK23 springer. Lol

I have a stock TM hi-capa 5.1 and these two hop-up rubbers available (and the stock TM of course) :

Nineball : http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/nine-ball...vsr-rifle.html

King Arms : http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/king-arms...bb-pistol.html

Which one should I install and what weight of BBs would you think it allow me to use effectively?

Nineball.

It's much harder and has better airseal. Wash it with dish detergent and warm water. Then let it air dry before installing.

Have fun

Be carefull with dish detergent, it's really hard on soft rubber and silicone.

Would "DOVE" soap work? Or something with a moisturizing feature?

I don't know why you would remove all the oil on a valve before installing it. I'm no techy. All I know is that it will be luber later with silicone oil.

So if it has nothing to do with gluing, leaving a little oil on it will not hurt it's installation IMO. If it's too oiled, then rubbing it off might do. Again, I'm stepping in murky water here.

I run .3 in all my pistols and it makes a huge difference in both range and accuracy. That's particularly true of my KSC G17 for the aforementioned reasons. I've pulled it several times at outdoor games this summer, and I've gotten several 100+ foot kills with it with little issue. As Stalker said, you just aim higher as you would with a real gun.

I also recomend the Firefly bucking for TM pistols. My TM P226 had very poor range with the stock rubber. With a Firefly, I can also easily hit targets 100+ feet away. Before I was lucky to get 75 feet out using .3. But .25s worked great, but I didn't get the kind of range I get out of my KSC with .3 until I switched rubbers.
