Minding the rules

I have seen a lot of flaming and "read the FAQ" with no link to what they are talking about type posts in here.
If the people doing this are getting punished, then disregard this, but this is supposed to be a safe haven for people who are new here and want some help.

People who tell you to read the FAQs are generally right. There is a whole FAQ section. You shouldn't have to be spoon fed information. People should do research before asking questions.

Like I said, the FAQ section is big, and most questions asked have been answered a million times before. So do a little research first before posting a question. This is all they are trying to say.

Being new is no excuse to not attempt to help oneself.

Generally, in the newbie tank I'll point someone toward the information -which may be located in the FAQ. It's still up to the OP to read it. This still isn't the SpoonFeed tank.

yes, but one of the rules in here is no "read the FAQ" if you want to say that, post a link to the closest relevant thread.

EDIT: like what styrak did in this thread http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=90518

Which 99% of people do.

Look, you haven't been around that long, so you probably have no idea how bloody annoying it is to repeat the same shit over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

If you notice too, many of the "Read the FAQ" responses come after someone has given a valid answer and the OP refuses to read it, ignores it, or whatever. They're also common responses to badly worded or badely written questions. If someone doesn't take the time to write a good question (Ie, legible, makes sense, etc) then why should we take the time to answer it?

Furthermore, there are certain threads in the FAQ which contain far more information than what we could easily write in here. For example, some of the Newbie guides. I'm not going to repeat 3 pages of information twice a day to newbies.. but sure I'll link them to the thread.

I have been here 3 months less than you kal.
Also I guess I find it less irritating since I have taught part of a class before so I have gotten used to having to repeat stuff 30-40 times.

I lurked around here a lot longer before signing up.

But whatever. Does it seriously bother you when people do this?

Infractions are handed out when required, to everyone, members and new users.

What kalnaren means by being here for not that long dosen't necessarely means your join date, but your involvement. You maybe joined in 2007 but only have 200-something posts. He has over 3k. What I mean is that he actually answers over and over again the same questions.

It's like me, I maybe joined in 2005 but I'm still a newbie and just started to post and become active here.

Raw post count might be a good indicator of the amount of involvement, but it says next to nothing about the quality of involvement. This isn't directed at Kalnaren, just speaking generally.

FAQ's are easily found by simply clicking the "BACK" button until you're out of the Newbie Tank (that's, what, twice?), scroll down to the very next forum, the one marked "FAQ" and click that link. Believe it or nor, it's that simple.

Hell, I've been here since 2003, just earlier this year I got an infraction for having too much text in my signature. When I inquired about this, mainly since my sig hadn't changed for about two years, I was given another infraction for complaining about my previous infraction. So yes, there is lots of Nazi-ism on this board, it affects new and old members equally. And is funny, I'm allowed one short quote for my sig, yet the rules state I'm allowed three times as much. I guess I've been sent to the limited 300 characters bin til next year. Which barely is enough characters to use to order an anus burger, small fries and a bottle of water from Harvey's.
