RPK internal setup opinions?
hey guys... I recently got my hands on a metal AK body, and I thought it would be fun to custom build an RPK from the ground up. heres what I would like to throw out to the ASC world ...
this is for outdoor play... and I have 2 internal setups in my head, kinda wondering what has been tried and works? there will be alot of shared parts like 9.6V battery, sorbo padded cyl &piston head, prom piston, metal hop up, trigger master. pretty much all metal exterior (more modern railed RPK74M styling with my own little touchs) I'm looking for the best balance of range/accuracy with ROF and being able to hold sustained fire without exploding. option 1. - 1J spring - TK twist 509mm barrel - modify smooth modular high speed gearset - G&P M120 turbo motor - firefly hop up option 2. - 390-400fps spring - Prom 6.04 600ish mm barrel - modify smooth modular high speed gearset - G&P M140 motor - firefly hop up. now ofcourse I also want the target to FEEL the hit out past 150ft .. but I don't wanna hose some poor bastard with 30 rounds @ 400fps before he can even call hit. also any suggestions on a 2500 rnd touch pad fed Drum mag that can keep up with 30rps (incase I actually get that ROF) so... any opinions?..

perhaps you should get modular high speed gears. u won't need to shim anything.. also, what metal body do you have? jw.

yeah... I ment the Smooth Modular gearset... I'll change that.
I BELEIVE it's an Element body... but I honestly don't know.. but it is an AK body not a proper RPK body.. so it'll be as close a conversion as I can get.

i would probably go with this: - 390-400fps spring a m120 would do well. - Prom 6.04 595mm barrel (same length as PSG1) fits insid ethe RPK - modify smooth modular high speed gearset - G&P M120 motor - prowin hopup -trigger master mkiii you'll probably get a good ROF using a LIPO setup. yeah pretty much the whole exterior will be G&P parts...
I just need some opinions on the internals setup...

Personally I'd run with high torque gears and prevent some poor sod from getting 30 BBs in the face (it would also save wear on all your internals).....but that's just me. SHA DO

You don't need a Lipo. Go with a high capacity NiMH large battery, it will probably last much longer which you need in an LMG.

Why would you want like 1000+rpm on an RPK?
Go for realism I say, modular smooth high torque set. Perhaps a mosfet =D M110 spring should do it though. EDIT: failing modify modulars, go for some systema gears. G&P body, guarder kit, blah blah... |

prom MS110 spring
firefly hopup prom double torque gears prom piston G&P M140, tuned mosfet 8.4v large NIMH or 11.1v 5900mah LiPo with an SW-COMP prom tappet, air nozzle, cylinder, cylinder head, POM piston head, spring guide |

This, only an ARS sorbo piston head and ARS sorbo cylinder head lol

probably cheaper to just get a prom m120 FTK double torque kit =)

You don't want 30 RPS in a support weapon unless you intend to go through several bags of bb's per day. Remember, as a SAW gunner, your role is to suppress the enemy with high volumes of fire to allow your companions the freedom of movement to outflank and eliminate the enemy while their heads are down. Having a slower (but constant) barrage of fire will be most effective in keeping their heads down. You also don't need a tightbore barrel - you want a wider spread of fire, not pinpoint accuracy.
I built my RPK as follows a few years ago; never had any problems with it: TM AK47 based: TM AK47 gas tube + front sight + Dust cover + Stock Tang TM hopup unit with Madbull 6.03 Black Python II 590mm inner barrel, Systema hopup rubber and (recently added SCS hopup nub) King Arms AK74 receiver + front sight block Real Steel RPK rear sight Real Russian PK-A red dot sight on side mount BattleAxe Steel + Wood RPK kit (same one that Styrak sells) Gearbox: MODIFY TorqueUp gears + anti reversal latch (old style, not SMOOTH; if re-building I would go SMOOTH) G&P M140 motor TM trigger block with custom wiring for MOSFET Triggermaster MKIII mosfet MODIFY S100 spring Guarder steel bearing spring guide Custom ported TM piston head on modified TM piston (2nd last tooth removed) Guarder Stainless non-ported cylinder Guarder Stainless Steel cylinder head with ARS Sorbo Pad TM tappet plate + selector plate 11.1v 4400Mah 20C LiPo (ROF/Motor Speed controlled by Triggermaster MOSFET)

thanks guys .. this is why I ask. I'll keep the twist barrel pyscho ROF laser beam for the mp5 LOL .
I only want enough accuracy out of it to be able to shoot over or around my team mates. and enough range to cover them effectively. and a ROF to be usefull. I'll get a bit more spray by running .25's (cheaper too! LOL)

I actually think you should go for an aluminium piston head =p
it's a v3 mechbox so it'll survive, and it sounds uber badass. |

anyone know the length of the RPK outer barrel?... I've been poking around and it's the only thing so far that I can't find for this thing.. I'm doing a more modern RPK with a bit of my own twist, so no wood furniture. RPK74M ..
hmmmmmm... maybe a PSG1 fluted outer barrel... EDIT... okay the real steel barrel is 590mm... is that off the handguard .. or from the chamber?... bah
